The Marvel Universe is filled with all sorts of villains, and Thor features some of the most outlandish enemies of them all. Later this year, moviegoers will be introduced to new baddies from the Nine Realms when Thor: Ragnarok hits theaters. The much-anticipated movie will follow the Norse god as he investigates the powerful Infinity Stones and runs into plenty of trouble along the way. And, in a slew of recently released behind-the-scenes photos, fans were teased with one famous villain’s debut. Earlier today, several pictures from Thor: Ragnarok hit the Internet which give fans a taste of the film. In two of the pictures, fans can see Thor on a dark set where he is looking upwards with a concerned expression. On his back, the hero is seen chained to a set of terrifyingly sharp horns, and comic book fans were quick to notice how similar they were to Surtur. If you are not familiar with Surtur, then you should know the Marvel villain is not one you’d want to anger. The character comes straight from Marvel Comics and is based off the fire giant Surtr from Norse mythology. Surtur is the fire demon of Muspelheim, one of the Nine Realms which is bathed in fire. Armed with one powerful sword, Surtur is one of Thor’s most well-known villains thanks to his destructive nature. Of course, fans learned that Surtur would be included in Thor: Ragnarok last year at San Diego Comic Con. ComicBook.com was present for Marvel Studios’ panel at the event, and we were able to witness the character’s entrance. Our own Lucas Siegel had this to write about Surtur’s on-screen debut: “The shot is early; they've literally been shooting this film for five days, and this is probably test footage. Hulk is roaring, jumping from some crazy height, ready to fight. As he dives to what's below him, everything around him is on fire - and that's when you realize, there's a face, and out of that face a louder scream than the Hulk's. It's Surtur, the fire demon of Muspelheim.” You can check out the images in the photo gallery below. The newest synopsis for Thor: Ragnarok can also be read as well: In Thor: Ragnarok, Thor (Hemsworth) is imprisoned on the other side of the universe without his mighty hammer and finds himself in a race against time to get back to Asgard to stop Ragnarok – the destruction of his homeworld and the end of Asgardian civilization – at the hands of an all-powerful new threat, the ruthless Hela (Blanchett). But first he must survive a deadly gladatorial contest that pits him against his former ally and fellow Avenger – The Incredible Hulk!”

Got milk? Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) heavyweight contender Ben Rothwell knows the clock is ticking on his combat sports career, which is why the 35-year-old bruiser is in a big hurry to avenge a few key losses from face-punching days gone by. Including his technical knockout loss to Cain Velasquez at UFC 104. Unfortunately for “Big” Ben, Velasquez has squandered some of the best years of his prime battling recurring injuries. In fact, it’s gotten to the point where athletic commissions have to think twice about licensing him to fight. Rothwell vents to BJPenn.com: “I don’t want him to leave because that’s a guy I’ve always thought I’d cross paths with again. He’s a big name and I’ve never got to fight any of the guys that I’ve lost to. I’ve had ten losses and I’ve never been able to get one of those back. Cain and Junior [Dos Santos] are two guys ranked in front that I’ve lost to and the two guys I could make that up with, it’s one of them. If I only could fight one of them I think it would have to be Cain because that one really pisses me off. It pissed me off what he did with the title, where he sat on it for a couple years and really messed up the heavyweight division. I think he learned how to milk it. For him and his family and his finances, it was great for him, but it screwed everything up for the rest of us. I like guys that step up and stay active and give people their shot at the belt. Just because we’ve seen champions in other divisions do as such, they kind of set the bar and I feel like he should hold himself to that standard.” Velasquez has endured eight surgeries (including this one) since his UFC debut in early 2008. Rothwell (36-10), meanwhile, lost some of his forward momentum after Junior dos Santos outstruck him at UFC Fight Night 86 back in April. Fortunately for the IFL import, he still sits at No. 5 in the official rankings and could be one or two big wins away from a 265-pound title shot. Whether or not he has to go through Velasquez to get it, remains to be seen.

Archie Comics Is Going to Start Releasing Marvel Comics, and That's Not as Weird As it Sounds Marvel is one of the biggest comics publishers in the world. So why would it need Archie Comics to release new collections of its own books? The reason behind a new deal announced today is not as bizarre as it might seem. Announced today through a press release at Publisher’s Weekly, Marvel is teaming up with Archie Comics to start selling a new format of Marvel anthologies called Marvel Comics Digest, starting in July. With six releases a year, the range, which features reprints of Marvel stories in the digest format, will be bundled in themed collections covering big heroes like Spider-Man and the Avengers (the first two digests), the X-Men, Iron Man, Black Widow, and more. So this brings us back to the question... why is one of the biggest comics publishers around turning to Archie Comics for this? There’s a few reasons. First, Archie Comics’ bread and butter for years and years has been releasing Archie digest collections—it’s not a format Marvel is particularly familiar with. On top of that, the aimed goal of these digests is to exploit an area of retail that Archie Comics is very strong in: sales at news stands and in supermarkets. While comics giants like Marvel and DC have retreated into selling their comics in specialty stores over the past couple of decades, Archie is one of the very few comics publishers who haven’t stopped selling their comics there, giving the company a huge reach to an audience that Marvel doesn’t typically reach out to. That means, as the Marvel movie universe has flourished and millions more people have become familiar with Marvel’s roster heroes, access to current comics featuring those characters has actually been harder for non-comics diehards. Someone who only knows Iron Man from Robert Downey Jr.’s performance is way less likely to go into a speciality comics store and start reading Invincible Iron Man, but if they saw those heroes on shelves at the local supermarket? They might be inclined to pick up a collection. Essentially, by doing these digests, Marvel gets to use Archie Comics’ already-established reach within a very large market, without having to slowly build up their own presence in those markets again. And Archie gets the benefit of being able to put out books with some of the most recognizable superheroes in the world on them. It might not be a sequel to Archie Meets the Punisher, but it’s a good deal for both Archie and Marvel. Comics Talk

A fresh batch of concept art for Marvel's upcoming Black Panther movie has made its way online thanks to some fans who snapped some screenshots from the Phase 3 sneak peek included in yesterday's worldwide release of Doctor Strange on Digital HD. Filming on director Ryan Coogler's superhero movie starring Chadwick Boseman in the titular role is currently underway in Atlanta, and thanks to the pieces of concept art we can now take a figurative stroll through the streets of Wakanda, the technologically advanced African nation ruled by King T'Challa (Boseman). If I'm not mistaken, the third image in the gallery below is that of a Vibranium mine, out of which Cap's shield is made. No clue as to whether we'll actually get to see each of these locations on screen when Black Panther's solo movie opens on Feb. 16, 2018 (a year from tomorrow!), but either way it's really cool to have a peek at T'Challa's world. After seeing the concept art, I want to move there. Black Panther follows T'Challa, who, after the events of Captain America: Civil War, returns home to the isolated, technologically advanced African nation of Wakanda to take his place as King. However, when an old enemy reappears on the radar, T'Challa's mettle as King and Black Panther is tested when he is drawn into a conflict that puts the entire fate of Wakanda and the world at risk. Black Panther also stars Michael B. Jordan as Erik Killmonger, Lupita Nyong'o as Nakia, Danai Gurira as Okoye, Winston Duke as M'Baku/Man-Ape, Andy Serkis as Ulysses Klaue/Klaw, Forest Whitaker as Zuri, Martin Freeman as Everett Ross, Florence Kasumba as Ayo, Daniel Kaluuya as W'Kabi, Angela Bassett as Ramonda, Sterling K. Brown as N’Jobu, Atandwa Kani as Young T'Chaka and Letitia Wright and Phylicia Rashad in undisclosed roles. Dig into the images below and let us know what you think.

We recently learned that Marvel is going to take a back to basics approach with their legacy characters in a bid to bring back longtime readers and make the Marvel Universe a little more recognisable, and the first proof of that comes with the launch of Chip Zdarsky and Adam Kubert's Peter Parker: The Spectacular Spider-Man. Kicking off in June, it's unclear what this means for The Amazing Spider-Man and Dan Slott's take on Peter Parker having his own company and going on globe-trotting adventures, but based on comments from Zdarsky, this definitely sounds like it could be the title many fans have been demanding for a while now. Here's an excerpt from his interview over at Entertainment Weekly The main book, Amazing Spider-Man, has kept things fresh by stretching the character and his situation. It’s still classic Spider-Man at its core, but transposed into new settings. With this book, we’re using the same Spider-Man in-continuity but shifting the spotlight back to his NYC environment and supporting cast. But even though we’re pushing to make it a more personal book, we’re still going to have big adventures with ramifications that’ll be felt in his other books. If I had, like, a true mission statement for the title though, it would be: “Have fun, have heart, have stakes.” My personal mission statement going into the book is 'With great power comes something something I don’t know I’ve never had power before. Sounds pretty, well, spectacular, right? Details about what Peter will be getting up to here haven't been revealed, but the writer added that he's a big fan of 80s stories revolving around the likes of Hobgoblin and Venom, so we could see that work influencing his take. What do you guys think about the launch of this title? As always, let us know your thoughts down below.
